About the degree program

Real estate is more than just buildings - it is a complex asset that requires a wide range of specialist knowledge, from planning to financing and management. On the Diplom degree course in Housing and Real Estate Management at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, you will combine economic, construction and legal skills to create a sought-after profile. This interdisciplinary focus makes you the ideal interface between clients, architects, civil engineers, specialist planners and banks. You will become familiar with the entire life cycle of properties and buildings and will later be able to work flexibly in a wide variety of areas of the real estate industry.

What's special: This course is optionally available as a cooperative KIAdirekt course. This means you work in a company (the cooperation partner) and earn money. The KIAdirekt variant at our university is explained in more detail here.

You can complete the Diplom degree in Housing and Real Estate Management in 8 semesters. Or you can opt for a practice-integrated part of the course in the KIAdirekt concept. This starts in September with 4 weeks of practical work experience in a company.

What is KIAdirekt?

KIAdirekt is a practice-integrated study model. It effectively combines theory and practice and is supported by the Saxon state government and leading companies.

You apply the knowledge you have acquired through practical work in the practical semester and in the company. The compulsory elective modules allow you to specialize further according to your preferences. Details

Course content

The Diplom degree course in Housing and Real Estate Management is spread over eight semesters. In the first semesters, you will acquire basic knowledge in the three pillars of the course: Real estate law, business administration and economics, and construction technology. You will then deepen this basic knowledge with real estate business and specialist knowledge.

The fifth semester is designed as an internship semester and allows you to apply your acquired knowledge in professional practice and make valuable contacts. In the higher semesters, modules such as facility management, real estate valuation and management of housing companies are added. Practical projects and a business simulation game round off your studies before you write and defend your Diplom thesis in the eighth semester. The practical classes / courses in our modern laboratories, such as for CAD, building physics or geoinformation systems, ensure that you not only acquire theoretical knowledge, but also master its application.

For the KIAdirekt variant, practical phases are completed in the company during the lecture-free period.

Career opportunities

Professional areas where you can get started

Project development

You analyze real estate markets, identify promising locations and develop economically successful concepts for new construction projects. You calculate costs, coordinate all parties involved and monitor implementation through to completion and marketing.

Real estate valuation

You determine the market value of land and buildings using recognized methods. You analyze property data, take market developments into account and prepare well-founded appraisals for transactions, financing or tax purposes.

Facility Management

You will take responsibility for the optimal management of buildings and technical facilities. You will develop maintenance concepts, coordinate service providers and ensure cost-effective operation while maintaining the value of the property.

Real estate management

You assess real estate as collateral for financing at banks, develop customized financing models and support customers with construction projects. You analyze market risks and prepare decision papers for lending.

Housing cooperatives

You are responsible for the management and development of the real estate portfolio. You look after members, plan modernizations, manage service providers and ensure sustainable portfolio development while taking social and economic goals into account.

Real estate agent

You mediate between buyers and sellers or tenants and landlords. You evaluate properties, create informative exposés, carry out viewings and negotiate contract conditions, taking legal and economic aspects into account.
