Our Friends Association was founded on February 6, 1993, by a group of prominent figures from Upper Lusatia. Since then, it has supported and promoted the development of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and has adopted bylaws as a nonprofit organization. Promoting higher education and students’ academic work are particularly important priorities. For this reason, the Friends’ Association awards annual prizes for outstanding performance that exemplifies the quality of education at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

With the help of its members from all sectors of public life, the Friends’ Association fosters the exchange of ideas and experiences between the university, the business community, the political sphere, and the general public. In doing so, it is keenly aware of the university’s unique location in the tri-border region of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany. Cross-border cooperation in the tri-border region with partner universities in Wrocław, Jelenia Góra, and Liberec is a unique feature in Germany to which the association devotes its attention and support.
