Disenrolment (from university)

Exmatriculation ends your studies
  • at the student's request - procedure for disenrolment (from university) in the event of premature disenrolment
  • after successful completion of studies - procedure for exmatriculation of graduates
  • after an examination failed in the final attempt
  • in the event of failure to re-register
  • at the end of the period of study (standard period of study + maximum extension permitted by the Saxon Higher Education Act)
  • failure to fulfill other enrollment obligations (health insurance membership, etc.)

Please note:

You can deregister in person or by post. In the latter case, please send the confirmation of release required for deregistration, if applicable under point 3) Mensa, signed by post (or by dropping it in the house mailbox) with your student ID to the Admissions Office. Once all signatures have been obtained, we will send you the relevant certificates by post after final processing. Please provide us with a current address on the confirmation of release! Any credit on your student ID card will be certified and can then be requested by you from the Studentenwerk.

Procedure for exmatriculation

A prematuredisenrolment (from university) can

  • at the request of the student or
  • ex officio.

For disenrolment at your own request, an informal application stating the reason and the desired date of disenrolment is required. You can submit this using the Application for disenrolment form or online via E-Campus (under the menu item: "My studies - Applications"). The reason can be brief (e.g. change of university, taking up employment, personal, professional, financial, health reasons, etc.) and does not need to be explained in detail.
Ex officio disenrolment occurs when the university pronounces disenrolment (from university) (e.g. loss of examination entitlement, lack of re-registration, lack of health insurance, etc.).
In both cases, the student must deregister from the university using the confirmation of release. The individual offices listed can be visited in any order. The last office is always the Admissions Office. There, after submitting

  • the application for de-registration,
  • the completed confirmation of release and
  • the chip card

the certificates of departure (certificate of exmatriculation and certificate for pension insurance) are issued or made available for printing in the E-Campus (under the menu item: Student Services; tab: Notifications/Certificates).

Upon request, the Examinations Office will issue an official transcript of records for the grades earned at the university.

When the new chip card is issued in winter semester 2013/14, the Studentenwerk Dresden will only be able to top up the chip card's wallet and pay out any remaining credit. Please contact the cashiers in the canteen regarding the payment of remaining credit.

Students studying in Görlitz can hand in their cancellation documents in Görlitz to Ms. Isendahl (secretary's office of the computer science department).

Please also note that your access to the internal and external university network services (login, e-mail, home directory, OPAL) will expire upon disenrolment and your stored data will be deleted.

Exmatriculation after graduation

  • The date of de-registration is the day of the defense
  • According to the currently valid regulations for admission, disenrolment is also possible at a later date after the defense.
  • Please print out the confirmation of release before your defense date with the certificate of completion of studies from E-Campus (under the menu item: Student Services; tab: Notifications/Certificates).

The successful completion of the last examination (usually the defense of the Bachelor's, Diplom or Master's thesis) is confirmed in writing on the degree certificate. Only with this proof can the Admissions Office process your de-registration immediately after the defense date and issue you with the leaving certificates (certificate of de-registration, certificate for pension insurance).

Graduates also have the option of obtaining the necessary signatures on the confirmation of release before the defense and submitting it by post in the case of an online defense.

According to the regulations for admission, disenrolment (from university) is not possible after submission of the Diplom thesis but before the defense. If disenrolment (from university) is to take place at a later date after the defense (e.g. end of the current semester), a written application for disenrolment must be submitted by the day of the defense at the latest. This can be submitted using the application for disenrolment (from university) form or online via E-Campus. Please note the consequences that such an application may have. For this reason, you should give good consideration to whether you submit such an application (see form "Antrag auf Exmatrikulation").

If the disenrolment date is the day of the defense, you do not need to submit a separate application for disenrolment (from university).

Please also note that your access to internal and external university network services (login, e-mail, home directory, OPAL) will expire upon disenrolment and your stored data will be deleted.
