External examinations
Individuals who, through their professional experience, continuing education, or self-directed study, have acquired the knowledge and skills required by the Study and Examination Regulations may earn a professional degree through an external examination process. Exception: This does not currently apply to the Special Needs Education/Inclusion Studies degree programme.
External candidates are not enrolled (are not students) and are not members of the university.

Prerequisite
Abitur, university of applied sciences entrance qualification, or other qualification for university admission in accordance with the regulations for admission; in an application for a master’s degree, an additional first professionally qualifying higher education degree in accordance with the Study and Examination Regulations

Application
Formal application with the required attachments by 01.03. (if starting in the summer semester) or 01.09. (if starting in the winter semester)

Duration of the external audit procedure
For module examinations, including any retakes: 15 months; in justified cases, a one-time extension of the deadline by 3 months may be granted upon request.
The time frame for the final dissertation is one year.

Costs
The fees depend on the number and type of examinations to be taken (€ 200.00 to € 1,000.00).
