Special status of Swiss universities

Following the "Against Mass Immigration" referendum held in Switzerland in February 2014, Switzerland's participation in Erasmus+ has been suspended for the time being. Although this means that Swiss universities cannot receive EU funding, they can continue to participate in student and staff exchanges as part of existing higher education partnerships.

This is made possible by the SEMP, the "Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP)" , which offers mobile students, lecturers and staff who apply for a stay at a Swiss university the opportunity to apply for a financial grant.

The main difference to funding within Erasmus+ is that in the case of a stay at a Swiss university, the financial grant is paid directly by the host university. The current funding rates can be found on the website below.
