Designing degree programs together with industry
Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is developing new degree programs in close collaboration with leading companies in the semiconductor industry and Silicon Saxony. In a workshop, representatives from academia and industry discussed the skills that tomorrow’s graduates should possess.
Workshop results:
- Future skills for the semiconductor industry defined
- Curricula aligned with industry requirements and expanded
- Competency profiles developed for Bachelor’s and master’s programs
The results are being incorporated into new curricula and help develop practice-oriented degree programs that optimally prepare professionals for the high-tech industry in Saxony and beyond.

New Degree Programs for the Semiconductor Industry
Our degree programs are designed in such a way that they are tailored directly to the needs of the semiconductor industry.
Study programs with an international profile
Goal: International management expertise with a focus on European and global markets.
Course Content: Business Administration, Intercultural Management, Marketing, Project Management, Sustainability; supplemented by Business English and other languages (e.g., Spanish, German, Czech).
Languages: Entirely in English.
Start: Every winter semester; duration: 6 semesters; no admission cutoff.
Unique feature: Study at two universities (HSZG & TU Liberec) with a Europe-wide exchange program, a mandatory internship abroad, and a dual degree.

With the European Open Academy (EurOpA), a model for continuing education in the era of digital transformation is taking shape in a German innovation region. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Sophia Keil at the HSZG, joint programmes are being developed in collaboration with partners such as Siemens to provide skilled workers with targeted training in future technologies. This approach strengthens the competitiveness of companies both regionally and internationally.
Key points of the project:
- Part of the “Lausitz – Life and Technology” structural change alliance
- Needs assessment at large companies (including Siemens) and SMEs (Arnell, ULT)
- Development of evidence-based, tailored continuing education programs
- Establishment of a video workshop and new teaching scenarios
- Testing and evaluation of the programs with partner companies
- Development of a sustainability strategy for continuing education
