Equal opportunities

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences has set itself the goal of promoting equal opportunity and gender equality at the university and supporting their implementation in the (Upper) Lausitz region. To facilitate a continuous and sustainable process of development and learning in this area, we have consolidated our gender equality-related activities within the Office for Gender Equality, Inclusion, Women’s Studies, and Diversity Research.

The AGIFD is committed to raising awareness of issues, challenges, and needs related to gender equality and diversity policy at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and in the (Upper) Lausitz region, discussing them, and working together to develop ideas and solutions.

At the university, it aims to facilitate (more) non-discriminatory structures and (more) equal participation for all students and staff. The topics of gender equality, the advancement of women, inclusion, and diversity are understood as cross-cutting issues that address not only study and working conditions but also teaching, research, and the university’s third mission. Particular attention is paid to processes of disregard and exclusion of women, LGBTIQ* individuals, people with disabilities, and people with migration backgrounds, as well as multiple forms of discrimination. Another focus is on knowledge transfer to the predominantly rural region of (Upper) Lausitz, as well as the involvement of regional stakeholders in our work processes.

The center sees itself as an open forum for discourse where all members of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences are welcome, where needs and positions are articulated, and where the AGIFD’s programmatic orientations and potential implementation strategies are discussed. Anyone interested may submit an application for individual membership to the center’s spokespersons. Individual membership requires active participation in the center’s work. Membership is not required to participate in AGIFD activities.

The center meets as a full committee at least once per semester to coordinate the activities of the university and its members. Specific issues, topics, and needs are addressed in self-organized working groups.
