Saxon Science Liaison Office in Cairo

Building Academic Ties Between Saxony and Egypt

The Saxon Science Liaison Office Cairo is supported by a consortium of the five state-run universities of applied sciences in Saxony. As a permanent point of contact in Cairo, it promotes academic cooperation between Saxony and Egypt.

The office brings together universities, research and educational institutions, public institutions, and other partners from both countries. It supports the development of university partnerships, joint study and mobility programs, and scientific networks, and provides access to Saxony’s higher education, research, and innovation landscape.

The Five Saxon Universities of Applied Sciences

The Saxon Science Liaison Office Cairo is supported by the five state-run universities of applied sciences in Saxony:

Universities of Applied Sciences—known internationally as Universities of Applied Sciences —combine scientifically grounded higher education with a strong focus on practical application.

Their degree programs are closely aligned with current developments in business, industry, science, and society. Project-based learning, modern laboratories, applied research, and collaboration with companies and public institutions play a central role in this.

Typical strengths of universities of applied sciences

  • practice-oriented and academically rigorous degree programs,
  • application-oriented research and knowledge transfer,
  • modern laboratories and hands-on learning environments,
  • project work addressing specific societal and technological issues,
  • close collaboration with businesses and public institutions,
  • direct contact between students and faculty,
  • good links between academic study, professional practice, and career development.

The participating universities offer programs with recognition for bachelor’s and master’s degrees and together cover a broad range of disciplines.

The SSLO Cairo builds on the expertise of these five universities while also forging connections to the broader Saxon higher education, research, and innovation landscape.
