Factory of the Future

Shaping future-proof production - with AI, sustainability and a focus on people.

Ready for the Future - The SCO-TTi – Science Center Oberlausitz

SCO-TTi is an open forum for students, researchers, companies, and citizens where research, innovation, teaching, and technology transfer converge in the context of digitalization. The team at the Faculty of Business Administration and Engineering Management at HSZG brings together expertise in production and logistics in the semiconductor industry, computer science, IT, marketing, data analysis, additive manufacturing, CAD, mixed reality, and engineering education. It takes an interdisciplinary, international, and practice-oriented approach to knowledge transfer.

The Zittau campus features state-of-the-art laboratories for VR, CAD, gaming, supply chain management, video, and business informatics, which facilitate research, teaching, and collaborations with partners.

SCO-TTi is actively involved in numerous national and international projects related to digitalization—for example, in the areas of production, logistics, supply chains, augmented and virtual reality, real estate management, skills development, and digital education.

Together with my team, I lead SCO-TTi as an open space for digital innovation. Here, we pool our expertise not only to explore new technologies, but also to directly apply them in education, business, and society—thereby actively supporting the region’s transformation.

Innovations we are working on

  • AIMS 5.0 - Humans and AI for the factory of the future

With research into interpretable AI, the HSCG is strengthening transparency and sustainability in production processes.

AIMS 5.0 – Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing Leading to Sustainability and Industry 5.0 is a European collaborative project involving 53 partners from academia and industry. The goal is to make European manufacturing more sustainable, resilient, and competitive through AI-supported hardware and software solutions.

The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) contributes its specialized expertise in research on human-centered AI and the visualization of decision-making processes in production management. The focus is on practical solutions that promote social, economic, and environmental sustainability—an example of how HSZG translates research directly into industrial applications.

  • Power2Power - Efficient semiconductors for the future

Power2Power - Efficient semiconductors for the future

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is a partner in the European research project Power2Power, which is working with 43 institutions from eight countries to develop innovative power semiconductors with higher power density and improved energy efficiency. These technologies make an important contribution to reducing global energy demand and CO₂ emissions.

Prof. Dr. Sophia Keil and her team are responsible for the work package “Automation and Logistics in the Digitalized Manufacturing of Power Electronics, which aims to optimize supply chains and production logistics for power electronics through automation and digitalization.

Power2Power is funded by the European research program Horizon 2020, the ECSEL Joint Undertaking, and national funding agencies such as the BMBF and the states of Saxony and Thuringia.

  • iDev40 - Integrated Development 4.0

In the European research project iDev40, 39 partners from six countries are working to accelerate development processes in the electronics and semiconductor industries through digitalization. The goal is the intelligent networking of production and development processes for electronic components and systems.

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is contributing its expertise in the area of Workplaces and Skills 4.0. The focus is on people: research into digitally enhanced workplaces, global collaboration in virtual teams, and the training and qualification requirements for the industry of the future.

iDev40 is funded by the European ECSEL Joint Undertaking program, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and the Free State of Saxony.
