Committee semester

Who is eligible for a committee semester?

  • Students who are actively involved at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences may, upon application, be granted up to three committee semesters.

What is the purpose of committee semesters?

  • The purpose of this regulation is to protect students who serve on university committees from having to pay long-term tuition fees. Extending the standard period of study for these students serves precisely this purpose.

What is the procedure?

  • Students who have served for at least one term on university committees or student government bodies established under the Saxon Higher Education Act (SächsHSG, § 21(4) Sächs.HSG) are not recognized as part of the standard period of study—one semester for a single term of office, or three semesters for service spanning multiple terms. (Examination Regulations § 3(1))
  • To do so, an informal application must be submitted to the Director of Academic Affairs and International Relations, Dr. Koutková, along with a certificate from the committee.

Will anything change regarding exams?

  • No, nothing is changing.
