Energy Efficiency

With the AQVA-HEAT research project, the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is developing a new method of using surface water as a sustainable heat source. The focus is on a vacuum liquid ice process, which is being tested in real operation in Zittau and Weißwasser. The aim is to integrate the technology into heating networks and thus contribute to an efficient, climate-friendly energy supply.

In the EKI-Saxony project, a consortium involving the HSZG and TU Dresden is researching new approaches for energy self-sufficient communication and information technologies. These systems work without an external power supply and enable the use of sensors, communication and computing units even where there is a lack of infrastructure - for example in industry, logistics or smart factories.

The HSZG is responsible for the application and evaluation of the technologies in the areas of Industry X.0, Smart Factory and logistics. The aim is to develop practical concepts that combine digitalization and resource conservation.

The DC Campus is a Saxon research network in which leading universities and institutes work together, including Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, TU Dresden, TU Chemnitz and Fraunhofer IWU. The aim is to develop sustainable direct current distribution grids for industry, neighborhoods and future-oriented infrastructures.

An important component is the DC LabSaxony in Zittau. It was initiated by the HSZG together with the TU Dresden and supported by the Just Transition Fund. The lab offers a platform for research, development and testing of DC technologies, in particular for storage integration, electromobility and industrial applications.
