Second degree

Second-degree applicants are applicants who have already completed a degree programme at a German university in a different field of study. For degree programmes with a general selection process, admission is limited to three percent of the available places at university.

The same requirements apply when applying for a second degree as when applying for a first degree. Further information is available from the Admissions Office or the General Student Advisory Service.

Charging tuition fees

For a degree program that leads to another professionally qualifying higher education degree and is not a Master's degree programme based on a bachelor’s degree, students may be required to pay tuition if they already hold a master’s, Diplom or Magister degree, or a degree from a degree programme culminating in a state or church-administered final examination.

If the first degree programme was completed with a Bachelor degree, no fees are currently charged for the second degree programme, provided that it is also a Bachelor degree programme. In consecutive degree programmes, continuing one’s studies after earning a Bachelor degree is generally not considered a second degree programme.

The fee is charged on the basis of a fee notice. It currently amounts to 350.00 EUR per semester.
