About the degree program

The Management orientation course at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is aimed at anyone who would like to study management and economics, but has not yet decided on their final subject area or generally does not feel ready for a "real degree".

In two semesters, you can get to know central content from management and business in connection with digitalization, communication, culture, tourism or health. You can choose from various subject modules, gain real study experience and can have the examinations you pass credited towards a regular degree course at a later date.

The orientation course is suitable for part-time study, without tuition fees and offers you maximum security: you can use examinations completed in subject modules as a free attempt for your subsequent Bachelor's degree course with us at the HSZG.

Who is the orientation program for?

  • You know that you want to study, but are not yet sure which degree program is right for you.
  • You want to try out real universities and modules instead of just making theoretical comparisons.
  • You would like to have already achieved some credits that will not be lost to you, but can be credited later.
  • You are generally interested in business and management - but also find digitalization/IT, communication, the cultural or tourism sector or healthcare interesting - without having to commit yourself immediately.
  • You are looking for a gentle, good start to your studies with a manageable workload.

Course of study

Orientation and entry (winter semester)

You will "learn to study" and gain your first practical experience in the scientific handling and management of projects in a "project workshop".

You will also choose at least two modules (10 ECTS) from a wide range of courses, e.g:

  • General business studies
  • Language and communication
  • Personnel and organizational management
  • Business informatics or programming
  • Cultural history
  • Public Health or
  • Tourism basics

If this is not enough for you, you can choose up to two additional modules, which you can also have recognized later.

Consolidation and decision (summer semester)

Consolidation and decision (summer semester)

In the summer semester, you will study "Scientific work in the digital world" and take three further modules (15 ECTS), e.g:

  • Management and Marketing
  • Technologies of digitalization
  • Communication in the Business World
  • Relational databases and IT security
  • Cultural and art forms
  • Medical psychology, etc.

Now you can specifically check which content and fields of study really suit you. You also have the option of choosing up to two further modules to go even deeper and gain additional ECTS credits.

Degree and transition

If you successfully complete at least 60% of the planned examinations, you will receive a certificate showing all your achievements and ECTS - ideal as a basis for transferring to a Bachelor's degree program.

Career and study prospects

The orientation study program itself is not a degree, but a strategic advantage:

  • well-founded decision for the right degree program
  • real university and examination experience
  • creditable modules and ECTS
  • Lower risk of dropping out of the subject or course

Graduates can then transfer to one of the following Bachelor's degree programs:
