Research Data Management Specialist (m/f/d)
- Reference: 41-2026 FDM -

for a fixed term ending on February 28, 2028.

As part of its performance agreement with the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture, and Tourism (SMWK), aims to establish university-wide governance for research data management (RDM) in accordance with the FAIR principles, as well as to develop discipline-specific research data guidelines by December 31, 2027. To implement this strategic task, a position within the Research Support Office is to be filled as soon as possible to introduce and support research data management (RDM).

In this role, the position holder (m/f/d) will be responsible in particular for the following tasks:

  • Developing and implementing a university-wide strategy for research data management in coordination with university leadership, faculties, central units, and the university’s research institutes,
  • Establishing a governance structure for research data management in accordance with the FAIR principles as well as national and international standards,
  • Developing guidelines for implementing the FAIR principles in accordance with the guidelines of the HSZG, relevant third-party funding agencies, and applicable scientific standards,
  • Developing discipline-specific research data guidelines in accordance with the agreement on objectives with the SMWK,
  • Analyzing existing processes, systems, and support services, and developing recommendations for action to further develop the research infrastructure,
  • Advising researchers on the planning, documentation, storage, archiving, and reuse of research data,
  • Developing information, advisory, and training programs on research data management,
  • Designing structures and processes, including guidelines, and conducting training sessions and workshops on research data management for HSZG members,
  • Connecting the university with regional and national RDM initiatives and professional networks.

 

The following knowledge and skills are required:

  • a successfully completed university degree, preferably in STEM or the social sciences,
  • Knowledge of national and international developments in research data management,
  • Knowledge of the FAIR principles and the Open Science movement,
  • Knowledge of the requirements of relevant third-party funding agencies (DFG, BMBF, EU),
  • Experience in project or change management,
  • Experience in developing guidelines, concepts, or governance structures,
  • Knowledge of legal frameworks (data protection, copyright, research ethics),
  • academic knowledge or professional experience in the areas of data management and process digitization, preferably in the academic sector,
  • Knowledge of the structures and working methods of universities, research institutions, or comparable organizations.

 

In addition, the following are desirable:

  • expertise in the areas of open data, open science, and open access,
  • practical knowledge in the preparation and delivery of training sessions and workshops, as well as pedagogical and didactic skills.

Salary is based on pay grade 11 of the TV-L collective bargaining agreement, provided the candidate meets the personal qualifications. The primary place of work is Zittau.
