    Job Description

    Electronics technicians specializing in automation technology integrate automation solutions into production, process, transportation, and building systems. Prior to installation, they analyze functional relationships and process flows and design modifications and expansions. They install and configure drives as well as measurement, control, and regulation systems. In addition, they assemble, configure, program, and calibrate sensor, operating, and bus systems as well as networks. They integrate the installed components and devices and incorporate them into higher-level systems. After test runs, they hand over the systems and train users on how to operate them.

    Their responsibilities also include the maintenance and regular inspection of systems, fault analysis using test software and diagnostic systems, and the repair of systems. They perform their duties independently in compliance with relevant regulations and safety requirements and coordinate their work with upstream and downstream departments. They are certified electricians as defined by accident prevention regulations.

    Electronics technicians for automation technology work in companies that develop, manufacture, or implement automation solutions. Companies in the fields of Mechanical Engineering and plant engineering are particularly relevant. However, jobs are also available in the automotive industry, the chemical industry, and the metallurgical and semi-finished products industries.     Electronics Technicians for Devices and Systems primarily work in medium-sized and large industrial companies that manufacture and maintain information and communications technology devices, medical devices, electronic system components, sensors and actuators, microsystems, and measurement and testing equipment. There, they are active in the areas of manufacturing, testing, repair, and quality assurance, as well as in testing and laboratory settings, and work in workshops or development and testing laboratories. In doing so, you are able to work with English-language documents such as manuals or order data. Electronics Technicians for Machinery and Drive Technology create, modify, and monitor control and regulation programs, configure frequency converters (set parameters), and commission drive systems. Their responsibilities also include (remote) fault diagnosis and systematic troubleshooting of electrical machines as well as complex drive systems, along with their maintenance, servicing, and monitoring during operational use.

    Electronics Technicians for Machinery and Drive Technology perform their duties independently in compliance with relevant regulations and safety provisions and coordinate their work with upstream and downstream departments. They are qualified electricians as defined by accident prevention regulations.

    Employment opportunities are primarily found in electrical contracting firms and the electrical industry, where the product and service portfolios are relevant. There, they work primarily in workshops or production halls, perform installation work on construction sites, and provide customer service at various locations. However, they are also in demand as electrical engineering specialists in other, non-electronic sectors, such as the metal industry.

    Machine tool operators manufacture components, such as those for machines, engines, or turbines. To do this, they typically work with CNC lathes, milling machines, and grinders. They enter the manufacturing parameters into the machines or retrieve programs from the machine’s memory and modify them as needed. Then they select the tools, clamp metal blanks into place, align them, and start the machines. They monitor the machining processes, remove the finished workpieces, and check whether the dimensions and surface quality meet the specifications. In the event of malfunctions, they investigate the cause using established testing procedures and resolve the problem. Regular inspection and maintenance of the machines are also part of their duties.
