Venue: Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Brückenstraße 1, 02826, Görlitz // Bluebox, 1.01
Speaker: Dr. Volker Weiß, historian and freelance journalist, whose work focuses on the theory, history and present of the extreme right and anti-Semitism.
Nationalism instead of globalization, identity instead of emancipation - these are the central themes of the new right-wing movements that are currently forcing their way into the political and social debate under the banner of the "Occident". The "new right" pioneers and groups such as the Identitarian Movement, the AfD or the "One Percent" initiative are confusingly similar to their historical predecessors, as Volker Weiß thoroughly demonstrates. He proves it: At present, radical nationalist currents of the past are being revived and only superficially given a more modern veneer, which is intended to launch a "cultural struggle from the right".
In his lecture, the historian traces the current development of new/old right-wing thinking and discusses key players, intellectual cues, strategies and methods. With an expert look at German and European history, he dissects the myths of the New Right and reveals their inner contradictions. Volker Weiß examines the authoritarian world view and illustrates the transitions between conservatism, right-wing populism and right-wing extremism. He also explores the buzzword of a "conservative revolution", which was recently brought back into the public debate by Alexander Dobrindt, and points to its origins in the fascist schools of thought of the interwar period. At the same time, Weiß unmasks the gesture of the right as "68ers from the right" and their self-staging as "fighters for the people". An eye-opening analysis.
Afterwards there will be an opportunity for discussion. This will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Raj Kollmorgen, Director of the TRAWOS Institute and Professor for the Management of Social Change at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.
