The right choice of study

The new Management orientation program at the HSZG supports prospective students in finding the right path to academic success.

Is this really the right degree program for me? How does studying actually work and am I ready for it? What if I decide and later realize that it's not the right fit after all?

These and many other questions occupy prospective students every year. For many, the transition from school, training or work to university is a big step into the unknown. The decision is not always easy: Which university do I want to go to? Which subject do I choose? And what exactly will I do with it professionally? The options are particularly diverse in the field of management and business: from business administration to tourism, from culture, communication and digitalization to business informatics or health management. But which subject is the right one?

Starting your studies with more confidence

This is precisely where the new management orientation course at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences comes in. The project was initiated by the joint project studienerfolg@saxHAW - with a clear goal: to give prospective students a secure, structured and flexible start to their studies.

Participants have the opportunity to try out different subject areas over the course of two semesters - from classic business administration content to major social and cultural topics. They not only gain their first professional impressions, but also experience everyday life as a regular Bachelor's student, including lectures, examinations and project work. As the orientation course is part-time, students also have the opportunity to fill the rest of their time independently: Whether with a part-time job, an internship or simply to find their feet in their new everyday life.

Successful study begins with a good decision. The Management orientation program gives prospective students the opportunity to get to know the course content, reflect on their own strengths and make an informed choice about their path. In this way, we create good conditions for motivation, perseverance and successful degrees.

A special advantage

Credits already earned are not lost. Successfully completed modules can later be recognized towards a suitable Bachelor's degree course. At the same time, the orientation course offers a protected framework in which to try things out - without the pressure of having to commit yourself immediately.

With the orientation program, we are deliberately opening new doors: for young people who are still looking for their path, as well as for those who want to reorient themselves. We are lowering barriers without compromising on quality and creating space for genuine experimentation. In this way, we reach target groups that have often been left out in the past. Our aim is clear: to provide orientation, discover potential and actively shape the future.

Prof. Dr. phil. Małgorzata Maćkowiak, Vice President for Education and Sustainability

The project team also sees the new degree program as an important contribution to student orientation: wrong decisions and drop-outs can be reduced as students receive direct support here and at the same time gain security, motivation and clarity for their future educational path.

A degree course begins not only with the choice of a subject, but also with the question: What actually suits me? We help you find an honest answer to this question.

Presentation at the Open University Day

The Management orientation program was also presented at this year's Open University Day by the student advisor Dr. Stefan Donath. Prospective students had the opportunity to find out more about the concept on site, ask questions and gain an initial insight into the content and process.

The Open University Day showed how much interest there is in orientation studies. Many young people are hesitant, have questions, perhaps don't want to commit themselves immediately but want to get started. They are looking for a suitable introduction that takes their reservations and sometimes fears seriously. I am convinced that the orientation program is exactly the right offer for these people to try things out and give them the time they need to get a taste of everyday life at university.
