The University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz (HSZiG) is seeking to fill a full-time position (40 hours/week) in the Faculty of Business Administration and Engineering as part of a joint project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) entitled " PerspektiveArbeit Lausitz" (PAL) .

Research Assistant "PerspektiveArbeit Lausitz" - (m/f/d)

to be filled for a limited period until 31.10.2026.

Interdisciplinary teams from the fields of occupational research and engineering from five universities and 27 companies and associations from Saxony and Brandenburg are pooling their expertise in the PAL project. The common goal is to make work in Lausitz efficient, attractive and healthier through data-based assistance systems and to establish a regional competence center for the work of the future in Saxony and Brandenburg. The aim is to deliberately combine ergonomic methods with artificial intelligence techniques and bring them to life in cross-industry demonstration centers as Living, Learning, Innovation and Mobile Labs.

In this project, data-based applications for operational decision support, e.g. on the basis of machine learning, are being developed and investigated at the HSZG. In particular, the focus is on taking into account the individual skills of employees in regional small and medium-sized enterprises in order to

  • Researching decision-making situations in production management and determining the requirements for human decision-makers and AI,
  • Improving human-AI collaboration in the relevant decision-making situations by taking individual competencies into account,
  • Evaluation of human-AI collaboration and derivation of practical recommendations for its targeted use.

The job holder (m/f/d) will be responsible for the following tasks in particular:

  • Requirements analysis, further development, use and evaluation of AI algorithms and methods for decision-making processes in production management at regional SMEs,
  • Recording the individual competencies of employees to map and take these into account in the data-based applications for decision support,
  • Conception, design and evaluation of individualized and competence-oriented data-based applications for decision support in economic decision-making situations,
  • Derivation of practice-relevant recommendations for the transferability of the results,
  • Scientific dissemination of project results at (international) conferences and in specialist journals,
  • Project progress monitoring and reporting.

The following knowledge and skills are required

  • Scientific university degree, preferably in the field of production, logistics, supply chain management, industrial engineering, computer science, industrial engineering or a related department,
  • Experience with R, Python, Matlab or another programming language for data science applications,
  • Knowledge in the field of machine learning,
  • Knowledge in the application of quantitative and qualitative research methods,
  • Knowledge of project management,
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as independent, conscientious, systematic, analytical and team-oriented way of working,
  • Confident appearance, ability to present research results to specialist and non-specialist audiences,
  • Motivation and willingness to help; flexibility; creativity; interdisciplinary thinking.

In addition, the following are desirable

  • Experience in the development and application of machine learning in an industrial environment,
  • Experience in scientific project work and in the publication of research results,
  • A good command of written and spoken English,
  • Knowledge of databases (e.g. SQL), ERP systems (e.g. SAP) and data analysis platforms (e.g. KNIME, Alteryx, Tableau),
  • Interest in social science and psychological issues,
  • Willingness to gain further qualifications in the context of a (cooperative) doctorate.

  • an independent, solution-oriented and proactive way of working,
  • Willingness to undertake business trips

If the personal requirements are met, remuneration will be paid up to pay group 13 TV-L. The first place of work is Zittau.
