Prof. Dr. Dr. Erik Hahn has been reappointed Visiting Professor of European Health and Social Law by the Faculty of Social Sciences at Rīga Stradiņš University in Latvia.

The new appointment builds on an ongoing collaboration that has been in place since 2022. In this role, Prof. Hahn regularly works at Rīga Stradiņš University and contributes his expertise in European health and social law to research and teaching.

His tasks include the supervision of Latvian doctoral students, participation in tenure committees for professorships and recurring classes / courses for students of law and medicine. The collaboration thus combines legal, social science and health-related perspectives in an international academic context.

The cooperation has also already borne fruit in teaching at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. As part of the social work project course, Prof. Hahn took students on an excursion to Riga. The focus was on the Istanbul Convention and its legal, socio-political and practical implications.

The renewed appointment underlines the international visibility of the Faculty of Social Sciences and at the same time strengthens professional exchange in the fields of health law, social law and European legal development.

In addition to the cooperation with Rīga Stradiņš University, a further international collaboration was established at the beginning of the year: Prof. Hahn was appointed Research Affiliate of the Centre for Law, Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Cambridge. This collaboration focuses on legal issues relating to the digital and cross-border provision of healthcare services and has already resulted in several joint publications, including in the University of Cambridge Faculty of Law Legal Studies Research Paper Series."
