With effect from the 2017/2018 winter semester, Professor Clemens Renker has been appointed University Professor of Banking, Finance and Insurance by the Faculty of Business Administration and Engineering Management. As he wants to continue his 0.5 position in Zittau/ Görlitz, he will take on this role as an honorary professor at the International Institute for Financial Market Research (en.unecon.ru/icfmr) as a cooperation between Saint Petersburg State University of Economics, TU Munich, Kaleidos University Zurich and other universities. Its task will be joint publications, organization of financial conferences, specialist lectures and doctoral seminars. The first joint publication "Operations of Banks with Corporate Clients" has just successfully passed the review process.
Decisive for the appointment were three specialist books in banking management, several specialist articles in banking journals and the Zeitschrift für betriebswirtschaftliche Forschung zfbf. Prof. Renker was chairman and technical director of the renowned EUROFORUM banking conferences "Success Strategies in Corporate Banking" for four years. He conducted research for the German savings banks sector (Deutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband and Bayerischer Sparkassenverband) in the areas of corporate identity policy, guidelines for corporate banking and savings banks' own investments/deposits. The appointment also takes into account the fact that Professor Renker's experience as a former specialist and manager in banks, director of a savings bank, member of the supervisory board of a bank and consultant to banks can be used to generate new relevant research topics.
The position can be used in particular to strengthen our Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in one of its areas of expertise, namely a "scientific bridge to Eastern Europe". This also opens up a wide range of opportunities for professors, lecturers and students at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.
