At this year's Student University, 29 students from grades 9-12 took part in three interesting programs.
In the course "How much energy does my house need?" by Dr. Vogel, laboratory engineer for building physics and air-conditioning technology, the pupils explored the question of why a house needs energy and how this demand can be reduced. To this end, calculations were carried out together. In addition, devices for the energy analysis of buildings (blower door, thermography) were presented, which the pupils tried out for themselves.
Professor Worbs, Dean of Studies of Faculty W, and the laboratory engineer of the CAD and PC pools, Mr. Fallgatter, offered the topic "Design your own 3D dream house". Here, the students got to know the ArchiCAD software and then designed their own dream house. Along the way, the pupils were given an explanation of what the planning of such a house has to do with business management and engineering, e.g. in connection with the choice of suitable building materials.
At the same time, Professor Keil, Dean of Faculty W, offered "No smartphone and no fun without logistics?". After a taster lecture on the topic of tasks and career opportunities in logistics as the "DNA" of the economy, the students were able to test their skills in the team development game Tower of Power together with a member of the Faculty W, Mr. Mühlan. In the third part of this event, the students were able to get to know the technology of 3D printing together with the doctoral candidate Mr. Haack in a trial internship and independently create the drawing of a Gordian knot for the 3D printer using the Autodesk Inventor program.
After eventful hours, the students went into the weekend not only with 3D-printed cell phone holders in the shape of elephants, but also with lots of exciting impressions of industrial engineering-related courses of study.
