Research Associate (m/f/d) - Keyword: 48-2025 LLG

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences | Application deadline: 10.10.2025

As part of the ERDF InfraProNet funded research project "Fluidguide - Improvement of liquid scintillation measurement based on liquid light guide technology", the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is seeking to fill a position for 40 hours/week (1.0 FTE) as a

Research Associate (m/f/d)
- Reference: 48-2025 LLG

to be filled for a limited period until 31.12.2027.

Measurement methods for ionizing radiation are of central importance in numerous safety-relevant and medical areas - for example in the dismantling of nuclear facilities or in nuclear medicine. The aim of the proposed project is to develop a highly sensitive detection system based on liquid scintillation measurement in combination with liquid light guide technology. A central element of the project is the comprehensive use of simulations for model-based optimization of the detector design. Radiation field, light propagation, total reflection and absorption are to be simulated in detail in order to achieve maximum light yield and signal quality at the detector.

The job holder (m/f/d) has the following tasks in particular:

  • Familiarization with simulation (e.g. FLUKA) and creation of modeling,
  • Participation in the development and setup of suitable experiments to validate the simulations,
  • Participation in tests and validation measurements at VKTA Rossendorf,
  • Preparation of reports, presentation and defense of the results.

What you already have

  • Completed studies (Bachelor /Diploma or Master's degree from a university of applied sciences, univ. Diplom or Master's degree) in energy, radiation or environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, automation or a scientific discipline related to the field of work, e.g. mathematics or physics,
  • Basic knowledge in the field of ionizing radiation,
  • Knowledge of the English language (especially reading and analyzing technical literature).

Also desirable are

  • Experience in scientific work and in the management of research projects,
  • Knowledge of the basics of Monte Carlo methods and/or radiation transport programs,
  • familiarity with the structure, organization and procedures of scientific institutions.

We also value

  • A high level of commitment to practical, application-oriented research,
  • willingness and interest to develop professionally, personally and scientifically,
  • reliable participation in the implementation of a publicly funded third-party project,
  • a committed and team-oriented way of working,
  • goal-oriented and independent implementation of work tasks,
