Chinese rings and fear of buses

Students represented the university at the "Summer in the City" with music, magic and humor.

"If you're really interested in magic and wizardry, you won't be able to avoid English-language literature!" Talking shop in the backstage area. Markus Brzezinski, a young magician and student of automation and mechatronics at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, gives this valuable tip to Frithtjof Vogel, a musician with a sense of humor and a student of culture and management, at Noack's House, the home of the Dreiländereck District Music School.

It's Saturday, July 10, and "Summer in the City"! A festival organized by the town of Zittau, which of course also includes the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. How could it be otherwise? Following an appeal, several young student artists have signed up to enrich the stage program on the Zittau market following the program of the district music school.

Chinese ring game or classic shell game of a slightly different kind. With wit, humor and assistance from the audience, Markus Brzezinski enchanted the audience and caused amazement, especially among the very young spectators.

"I've been performing magic for five years and have learned everything myself. My big role models are Penn & Teller, an American magician duo," says the 19-year-old. He is delighted to have the opportunity to perform on stage again.

"Due to corona, there was no opportunity to perform in front of a larger audience. So it's all the nicer to be able to perform again now," says Markus Brzezinski.

Lea Heymann thinks so too. She comes from the Ore Mountains and is studying special education/inclusion studies in Görlitz. She routinely accompanies herself on the electric piano as she interprets German pop songs such as "Ich geh in Flammen auf" by Rosenstolz in her own way with a romantic, dreamy voice.

"I'm actually used to singing as the front woman of a band, but with the start of my studies and corona, I haven't performed for a while, not since Christmas 2019," reveals Lea. "It's really nice that I can be here." Many others thought so too. Lea's professional performance not only attracted the attention of the audience, but also the interest of other cultural professionals, who spontaneously slipped her their business cards.

Finally, it was "clear the stage" for 'Frith Vogel'. Detached from the usual genres, the Master's student sang about his fear of buses and the rut that threatens to catch up with us all, earning plenty of applause from the guests on the Zittau market square.

All in all, it was a successful and entertaining evening, and the organizers are sure that this was not the last time they would have seen these students on a show stage.
