Dear Faculty Members,

Have you ever considered that teaching staff at schools have shared faculty lounges, whereas you, as college faculty, do not have this in the same way?

This gives you privacy, a quiet place to work, and the freedom to decide on the wall decor yourself. On the other hand, compared to your colleagues in schools, one thing might be lacking: the opportunity to exchange ideas with other faculty members. Whether it’s questions about content or methodology related to teaching and research, or even general, personal topics.

That leaves joint meetings, hallway conversations, or lunches. Rarely, however, is there enough time here for an in-depth exchange on questions like “How do you actually handle …?”, which became particularly frequent with the ad hoc shift to digital teaching two years ago. Add working from home to the mix, and it becomes increasingly difficult to find opportunities for conversation, not to mention making new connections. And how often can you exchange ideas with your colleagues from the other campus? Well, in the future, every two weeks.

In cooperation with the D2C2 (ZWB) collaborative project, affiliated with the Vice President for Education and International Affairs, and the zfe, we cordially invite you to a new exchange format, “Digital Teaching Exchange”

Starting on October 14, 2022 we will be hosting sessions for you every two weeks on Fridays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the digital meeting room (link to the BBB room via deborah.halang@hszg.de ) for topics related to digital teaching.

What have been your experiences over four semesters of digital and hybrid teaching? Which methods and tools have you come to particularly value in your teaching, and how have you maintained contact with your students?

Your experiences are of interest not only to us but also to your colleagues. That’s why we’d be delighted if you could give a ten-minute presentation on your digital teaching experiences at one of our meetings, before you and your colleagues engage in discussion and exchange. We’ll kick things off on October 14 with the deputy director of the zfe, Acting^Professor Dr. Steffi Heidig, who will speak on the topic “Blended Learning vs. Hybrid Teaching.”
