The Förderverein der Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz e.V. awards prizes for outstanding academic achievements in 2023.
This year, the Friends of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences e.V. once again awarded prizes for outstanding academic achievements to the best graduates and students of the HSZG at the suggestion of the faculties.
As part of the graduation ceremony on October 7, four of the six award winners received their certificates in person from the two members of the association, Prof. Dr. Falk Maiwald and Antje Pfitzner M. A.
Award winner Alexandra Lucia Klein B. A. even gave a graduation speech after the award ceremony, in which she not only looked back on her Bachelor's degree in Communication Psychology at the HSZG, but also encouraged all those present to go their own way, even if it seemed unconventional at first.
"Being able to recognize the academic work of students with the Fördervereinspreis for outstanding academic achievements is a great thing. Being able to award this quality award for our university to our young academics every year makes us very proud," said Prof. Dr. Falk Maiwald, second deputy chairman of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences' sponsors' association.
Richard Kretzschmar crowns his academic achievements during his KIA degree in Automation and Mechatronics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science with his thesis on the analysis of border transition in an ETCS simulation environment using the planned full tunnel variant of the new Dresden-Prague line.
Felix Unger has not only achieved outstanding academic results in the KIA degree course in mechanical engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering but also wrote an excellent thesis at Siemens AG in Görlitz. In it, he investigates the extent to which the currently very conservative strength design of round condensers in industrial steam turbines can be optimized in order to generate more sustainable designs.
Marcel Kremser began his studies in the Business and Languages program at the Faculty of Management and Cultural Sciences and his Bachelor's thesis achieved outstanding results. His thesis aims to improve learning success in English lessons. To this end, he has developed didactic and methodological approaches to solving interference in foreign language learning. He thus makes specific recommendations for language teaching in schools.
Melanie Messow achieved during her Master's degree in "Integrated Management" at the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences not only achieved top marks. With her Master's thesis on "Developing an approach to take future issues into account in (integrated) management systems - using the example of climate management, supply chain due diligence and sustainability management", she also made an important contribution to the "Trend-oriented integrated management systems" project at her faculty and provided the basis for a first-time empirical survey on the status of integrated management systems in the D-A-CH region.
Alexandra Lucia Klein can look back on outstanding academic achievements in both the Communication Psychology at the Faculty of Social Sciences as well as the top grade for her Bachelor's thesis. Her thesis deals with the role of sexual shame in romantic relationships. With the help of an independently developed workshop format, she was able to clarify the protective function of shame in romantic relationships and achieve positive effects on the couple relationship and its constructive handling of the emotion of shame.
Sophie Jeannette Bachmeier studied business administration at the Faculty of Business Administration and Engineering Management with great success. Her thesis on "Cost analysis in a medium-sized manufacturing company" was carried out in cooperation with an innovative mechanical engineering company from Lusatia. Ms. Bachmeier impressed both professionally and personally with her committed and well-founded practical work.
All six faculties have the opportunity to nominate a student for this award.
The prize is awarded for the best academic achievement based on the grade point average, with special consideration given to the final thesis. The criterion is a grade point average of better than 2.0. The prize money amounts to €500.
The supervising lecturers, the student council or the students themselves are eligible to apply.
