Look and act

As part of the "Orange Days", the HSZG is sending a visible signal against violence against women.

Recognize - Name - Prevent. The "Orange Days" take place every year from the "International Day to End Violence against Women" on November 25 to December 10, the "Human Rights Day". On these 16 days of action, the issue of violence against women and girls is highlighted in various ways around the world.

Together for more visibility

To this end, orange flags will be hoisted at the Zittau site for the duration of the campaign period and a banner in Görlitz will draw attention to the "Orange Days".

In addition, the Z IV building in Zittau will be bathed in orange light on November 25, 2025. In Görlitz, a lecture on the topic of "gender-specific injustice in the education system" will 'illuminate' the scope of the Orange Days.

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is fully committed to respectful, non-violent and equal coexistence. Violence against women and girls is unacceptable, neither in our society nor in academic contexts. With our participation in the "Orange Days", we are sending a visible signal.

Relevance across status groups

In Germany, a woman is murdered by her (ex-)partner every other day. Someone who deals with such hard facts is Julia Ochmann. The research associate in the Women Professors III program knows that violence against women can also be a barrier to career paths for female academics in the university context, as it is in other systems. "Women are more likely to be affected by hostility towards science and experience more moral devaluation, professional problems and content-related criticism than their colleagues," she explains.

According to study results, 44 percent of women employed and 34 percent of women studying at German universities have experienced sexual harassment. "Especially in the academic world, it is often assumed that there is no violence against women. That's why I think it's all the more important that this topic is addressed and that I have the opportunity to talk about gender-specific injustice in the education system as part of the "Fail Forward" format," says Julia Ochmann.

Out of the shadows

As part of the event series "Fail Forward - Auf ein Glas Klarheit mit ...", Julia Ochmann will give a biographical insight into the "crooked CV of a statistical outlier" on November 25, 2025 under the motto: "...somewhere between educational advancement and a glass ceiling".

The event will take place from 18:00 to 19:30 in House G I, Room 1.18 in Görlitz.

Afterwards, you can talk to her about your questions and experiences over a non-alcoholic Aperol.

The event is organized in cooperation with the joint project "studienerfolg@saxHAW" and the HSZG student council.
