The Science Year of the HSZG
The Year of Science serves as the central strategic framework for Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences to combine interdisciplinary research with societal dialogue. Each year, the university focuses on a current key topic that is significant for the region and beyond. The goal is to bring together researchers, industry partners, and the public to engage in lively, solution-oriented discussions on pressing issues for the future.
Theme Review:
- 2025/2026: “The Future Under Pressure: Energy, AI, and Us in the City of Tomorrow” – Opportunities and conflicts at the intersection of the energy transition and artificial intelligence.
- 2024/2025: “Those Up There, Us Down Here” —Interdisciplinary perspectives on social minefields (representation, trust, elites) and our region’s development opportunities.
- 2023/2024: “A Turning Point”—for Research, Too? —Challenges at the Intersection of Defense Research, Migration, Climate Change, and Regional Structural Transformation.
- 2022/2023: “Heat Supply Under Scrutiny?” – Security of supply and sustainable heating concepts in times of crisis.
- 2021/2022: “Knowledge Transfer of the Future” – Under the motto “All About Transfer, or What?” the focus is on how innovations effectively find their way into the economy and society.
- 2020/2021: “Bioeconomy” – Research on renewable resources, inspired by the BMBF’s Year of Science.
- 2019/2020: “Artificial Intelligence” – From neural networks to robots with emotions.
