As part of the "Mechatronics Project Work" module in the bachelor's degree program in automation and mechatronics, exchange students from Mexico have developed a 6-axis robotic arm. What can it do? The students will present this in the public final defense. Anyone interested can watch the presentation online in the BigBlueButton room (BBB room).

Self-developed and built
The aim of the work was for the students to build a 6-axis robot arm from scratch as a demonstration example. The following main tasks were defined:
- Analysis of the existing equipment at the university,
- Research into possible implementation solutions with open software and open hardware,
- Planning, design and simulation of the robot arm with FreeCAD,
- programming the electronics,
- construction of the robot arm,
- Integration into robot software such as RobotOS or Robot Workbench from FreeCAD,
- Development and implementation of a sample application.
Sustainable use of the robotic arm in student recruitment and for companies
Studying at the HSZG is not just about theory, but also about practice. The robot arm is therefore intended to show our prospective students what practical content is taught during their studies. The development of the students is also interesting for companies. By working with free software and hardware, the university has the opportunity to develop individual solutions for SMEs.
