HSZG hosts the annual conference on engineering education
Participate with current research or teaching contributions, reports and practical examples.
The Annual Conference on Engineering Education will take place from May 14 to 16, 2020, at our university’s Zittau campus (Building Z II). At this conference, the Society for Engineering Education aims to reflect on and discuss the triad of people, technology, and production and service structures as a framework for future-oriented, sustainable educational processes.
The topics of the annual conference are:
- Do modern production and service structures determine human behavior?
- How can production and service structures be designed in accordance with humanistic principles?
- What pedagogical and didactic approaches, concepts, and methods are effective for technical education?
- 4ING Session (Faculty Days for Engineering and Computer Science at Universities): How can young people be inspired by technology, and what role can engineering faculties at universities play in this?
- What (new) demands are placed on the personalities of teachers, and what on those of students?
- What are sound (ethical) principles of wisdom for overcoming new challenges?
All of these questions form the basis for exploring how sustainable concepts for technical education can emerge from a blend of tradition and innovation, enabling teachers and students to responsibly shape the future for themselves and others. And what about young people’s enthusiasm for technology? This year’s 4ING session focuses on this very topic.
Building on the key themes and discussions from previous regional conferences, we also welcome contributions on the following topics:
- Fundamental questions in engineering education
- What makes for good teaching?
- Ethical issues in technical education
- Vocational education
- Women in technical careers
- Best-Practice Examples of Innovative Concepts in Teaching and Learning
- Goals of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and UNESCO’s 2030 Education Agenda, and their contribution to technical education
- Miscellaneous.
When submitting your contribution (detailed abstract), please consider the following aspects:
- Relevance to the topic
- Objective of the contribution
- Central research question
- Methodological approach
- (Preliminary) results
The papers will be evaluated through a double-blind review process, and the feedback will be provided to the authors. Following the conference, the papers will be published as full-length articles in the conference proceedings.

Please indicate your preferred format for your contribution. Depending on the relation of the submitted contributions to the main topics, the format in the conference program may change in consultation with you.

Participation is, of course, free for faculty and students at our university.
All others pay €120, including the conference proceedings (ISBN), coffee, and lunch; students pay €25, including coffee and lunch.
