Girls' Day at the HSZG: Natural Fiber Center

At the Natural Fiber Center at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, researchers are working diligently to find ways for us to live and produce using what nature provides in the future, while protecting our environment.

Plants play a central role here

. That’s because we can use plants to generate energy—such as biogas—or to make great products, like biodegradable disposable tableware or train components. Our researchers will explain how it all works during Girls’ Day from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Natural Fiber Center.

Along the way, you’ll learn what fungi eat and how we can use their unique abilities in the future to help with recycling and turning otherwise unusable materials into something useful. You’ll also be there when our researchers show you how waste is sorted at a sorting facility and learn from them about the steps required for successful plastic recycling.

Our program is rounded out by an exciting look into our research on microplastics in the soil.

Our researchers will be happy to answer your questions about our research, as well as tell you which subjects they excelled in at school and what you need to study to conduct research with us.
