"I don't know what I didn't think was cool at university!"

In the Alumni Talk, Florian Rahtz reports on why studying at the HSZG is worthwhile.

In the run-up to the University Information Day at the HSZG in January, presenter Victoria Hohlfeld spoke to alumni of the university about why studying at the HSZG is worthwhile.

Today, Florian Rahtz talks about his experiences of studying at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

Studying at the HSZG? Of course! Florian Rahtz completed his Bachelor's degree in Ecology and Environmental Protection at the HSZG in 2017. He chose Zittau for a variety of reasons. One of them: "I wanted to do something with environmental protection, as there were relatively few opportunities in my time." The HSZG-specific Bachelor's degree course has many interdisciplinary features, which, according to Florian Rahtz, offers good conditions for gaining a comprehensive insight into the subject and being able to orientate himself for his later professional life.

During his Bachelor's degree, Florian Rahtz realized that teaching at the HSZG was very good for his own type of learning. A relatively small number of fellow students created a familiar atmosphere in which individual support was possible. He therefore decided to stay in Zittau for his Master's degree. He chose the integrated management systems course, which was still new at the time. Florian Rahtz's work on the Faculty Student Committee gave him the opportunity to play an active role in shaping the course, which he greatly appreciated.

After completing his Master's degree, Florian Rahtz worked for a medium-sized company for four years. He recently became an independent management consultant for energy and climate protection management and environmental protection. He is also a guest lecturer at the HSZG for the same Master's course in which he himself completed his degree and about which Florian Rahtz now speaks enthusiastically.

"I still have to smile today when I sit at work and use the same methods that I learned so playfully back then." Florian Rahtz

So it's no wonder that he would choose to study at the HSZG again at any time. "I can't think of anything I didn't find cool about the university," says the HSZG alumni.

In the full interview, Victoria Hohlfeld and Florian Rahtz talk about the advantages of practice-oriented teaching and learning and answer the question of what an auditor actually is. If you want to find out more about Florian Rahtz's future plans and good reasons for studying at the HSZG, you can watch the complete alumni talk.
