How can modern technologies maintain quality of life in old age?

There was a great deal of interest, as the technologies presented are specifically designed to give older people or those in need of support greater independence and security in their everyday lives. The JENNA tablet, for example, provided many “aha” moments: it is designed to be particularly user-friendly and gives even people with no previous experience access to digital services – whether for communicating with relatives, playing games, or organizing their day.

A smart medication box was also presented, which helps users take their medication reliably with reminder functions. This is a valuable aid, especially for older people, as it not only provides security but can also relieve the burden on relatives. Another highlight was the VR glasses, which enable virtual trips to distant countries or exciting worlds of experience. Many visitors were impressed by how realistic and immersive these experiences are – and by the great potential such applications offer for activation and participation.

In addition to trying out the devices, the focus was on personal exchange. Maria Fabisch took the time to answer questions, listen to suggestions, and talk to participants about how technical support can be used effectively in everyday life.

The event made it clear that assistive technologies are not a vision of the future, but rather aids that can already be experienced in everyday life today. Such encounters strengthen direct contact between research, practice, and local people—while also demonstrating how technology can build trust and break down barriers.
