Conference "Learning through play" from 31.01. to 02.02.2019
The 3rd conference is dedicated to the use of simulation games and game-related approaches in university didactics.
Today, engineers in their companies develop solutions using playful, agile methods or based on computer simulations and simulation games. What is the current situation in higher education in this regard, and what are the latest developments?
As part of the “Learning Through Play” conference, we will be taking an in-depth look at the use of business simulations, board games, serious games, and other playful approaches in higher education pedagogy and research from February 1–2, 2019. The focus will be on engineering education and the STEM field. Together, we will explore the question: What approaches to simulation game methodology exist for modeling complex issues in the STEM field? We will provide participants with the opportunity and space to experiment with and implement new simulation game formats.

The conference will feature workshops on the following topics:
- Experiment D—A simulation game for developing and promoting intercultural competence
- The “Projektwerkstatt-C²” simulation game—playfully developing project management skills among STEM students,
- Current versus Future Technologies, Regulations, and Risks—A Simulation Game for Biotechnology, · InnoV8—Digitalization in Corporate Groups, etc.
and presentations with the following titles:
· Motivating and Engaging Students Through Gamification Elements in Higher Education,
· A World Without Rules—Competence-Developing Game Approaches in IT Security,
· Motivating and engaging students through gamification elements in higher education,
· The future of teaching: participatory simulation game design? etc.
will take place.
Tip: As a prelude, a symposium titled “Zug um Zug” — A Theater Method Becomes a Coaching Tool will take place from January 31 to February 1, 2019.
