Computer science students at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences receive the ERN's 1st prize in the euroregional competition.
On 13 January 2016, outstanding achievements in cross-border cooperation in the Neisse-Nisa-Nysa Euroregion were honored in a festive setting at the European Centre for Education and Culture in Zgorzelec. This event also included an award for student work in the "Young Scientists" category. Prizes were awarded for work that contributed to solving euroregional tasks and problems.
This year's 1st prize in the "Young Scientists" category went to students Stefan Strehler, Alexander Preuß and Maciej Krzan from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science for their project "Cross-border German-Polish Student IT Working Group". This project aims to introduce young Germans and Poles to information technology and contribute to the training of highly qualified specialists for the region. The aim of this project is to lay the foundations for studying computer science, with German and Polish pupils from the cities of Görlitz and Zgorzelec being integrated into this working group.
It is thanks to the initiatives of the Academic Coordination Center of the universities in the Neisse Euroregion that this prize has now been awarded for the eighth time. The choice of venue, the cultural center on the site of the former Stalag VIII A prisoner-of-war camp on the outskirts of Zgorzelec, which was inaugurated just over a year ago, was also intended to commemorate the 120,000 prisoners of war from various nations.
The award with prize money from the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences Association was presented by the Rector of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Friedrich Albrecht, Ms. Zonja Szymanowski, Coordinator of the Academic Coordination Centre for the University, Dr. Helena Neumannová from the Technical University of Liberec and Dr. Franciszek Adamczuk from the Wroclaw University of Economics.
The international network Neisse University was also pleased to take second place in the field of culture/education/sport.
