Plants that heal fields
Can certain plants make the fields healthier?
The agricultural sector is under significant pressure. Each year, a portion of arable land must be set aside for ecological compensation measures, and the use of fertilizers and pesticides is being increasingly restricted. In the “Biodiversity in Agriculture” project, Jana Dörnchen-Neumann and her team from the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences worked with farmers to investigate the state of biodiversity on land designated for compensation measures—with some very encouraging results!
The next step will be to work with the farms to see whether chemical pesticides can be replaced by growing very specific plants. See for yourself:
