Professor Jens Weber and student Lukás Veselý talk about the new bachelor's degree program in Green Engineering.
The new bachelor's degree course in Green Engineering will start for the first time at our university in the fall. Graduates of the course will be able to develop comprehensive solutions to design the cycle of products in an ecological and sustainable way. They will learn how to minimize resource consumption and reuse substances and materials to develop products with a minimal ecological footprint. In the latest episode of our hi@hszg university podcast, Viktoria Hohlfeld talks to Professor Jens Weber and student Lukás Veselý about the new degree program.
... that the degree program is based at the interface between the two disciplines of engineering and environmental sciences and how the university came up with the idea for the degree program.
... how Lukás went about choosing the course, why he didn't have this one "moment of truth" in this context and why he perhaps doesn't even need it.
... why the Green Engineering course is so important in today's world and why people should definitely study it.
... why Prof. Weber thinks that you first need a technical foundation in order to work on the "cool stuff" later.
... that the degree course is very project-based and that sometimes it can be: "Build a solar cell from organic materials!"
... why you don't have to be an ace in physics and the like for green engineering, but you shouldn't be afraid of formulas either.
... what it's like to be a student in Zittau, where Lukás prefers to live and what he does in his free time.
... that you can already work on research projects and earn money as a student.
... that Prof. Weber didn't know at the beginning of his studies what he would do later in his career and that it is more important that you study what you want to do and what really interests you.
