Next milestone for the teacher training program

Leipzig University and Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences sign an administrative agreement on the new teacher training course at a kick-off workshop.

With the ceremonial signing of an administrative agreement on September 24, 2025, Leipzig University (UL) and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) took the next important step on the way to the new cooperative degree course "Teaching Qualification Secondary School with Special Needs Education".

As part of a kick-off workshop at the Görlitz campus, representatives from both universities from academia and administration came together to coordinate the content and organizational implementation. In working groups, representatives from the subjects of mathematics, biology, German and economics, technology, household/social sciences (WTH/S) as well as those responsible in the areas of educational sciences, study organization and administration discussed the final steps for a successful start to studies.

HSZG Rector Prof. Dr. Alexander Kratzsch emphasized the commitment of all those involved at the opening of the event:

With our joint teacher training course, we are giving young people in our region the chance to become teachers here and thus the opportunity to work locally. I would like to thank the ministries involved, who have supported this step from the very beginning, as well as all those involved at Leipzig University and our HSZG, who have made it possible for this course to be launched."

The ceremonial signing of the administrative agreement by the rectorates was the highlight of the event. In their welcoming addresses, Vice President for Education and Sustainability Prof. Dr. Małgorzata Maćkowiak (HSZG) and Vice President for Talent Development: Studies and Teaching Prof. Dr. Brigitte Latzko (UL) as well as Chancellor Christoph Duscha (HSZG) underlined the importance of the cooperation.

Today's signing is a very special occasion: we are not only celebrating the start of a new degree program, but also the visible sign of a successful collaboration. This project shows what can be achieved when motivated people work together. It sends a strong signal to the youth of our region, to politicians and also to ourselves. We have created something new together!

Vice President Prof. Dr. phil. Małgorzata Maćkowiak (HSZG)

We are proud to have reached this milestone together. We are particularly pleased to see how many young people have already enrolled on the new course. Today has also impressively shown what it means to work together - and that we are really good at it.

Vice President Prof. Dr. Brigitte Latzko (UL)

Input from experts from both universities also provided an outlook on future cooperation. With the new teacher training course for secondary schools with special needs education, the partner universities are sending a strong signal for innovation in teacher training and the sustainable development of the educational landscape in Saxony.
