Next Milestone in Teacher Training
The University of Leipzig and Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences signed an administrative agreement for the new teacher education program during a kick-off workshop.
With the ceremonial signing of an administrative agreement, the University of Leipzig (UL) and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) took the next important step toward the new cooperative degree program“Secondary School Teacher Training with Special Needs Education”on September 24, 2025.
As part of a kick-off workshop on the Görlitz campus, decision-makers from both universities—representing both academic and administrative staff—came together to coordinate the program’s academic and organizational implementation. In working groups, subject representatives from mathematics, biology, German, and economics, technology, home economics/social studies (WTH/S), as well as officials from the fields of educational sciences, academic affairs, and administration, discussed the final steps for a successful launch of the program.
At the opening of the event, HSZG Rector Prof. Dr. Alexander Kratzsch particularly emphasized the commitment of all those involved:
Through our joint teacher education program, we are giving young people in our region the chance to become teachers here and, in doing so, the opportunity to make a difference right here in our community. “I would like to thank the participating ministries, which have supported this initiative from the very beginning, as well as everyone at the University of Leipzig and our HSZG who have made it possible for this degree programme to launch now.”
”The ceremonial signing of the administrative agreement by the University Executive Boards marked the highlight of the event. In their welcoming remarks, the Vice President for Education and Sustainability, Prof. Dr. Małgorzata Maćkowiak (HSZG), and the Vice President for Talent Development: Studies and Teaching, Prof. Dr. Brigitte Latzko (UL), as well as Chancellor Christoph Duscha (HSZG), emphasized the importance of the collaboration.
Today’s signing ceremony is a very special occasion: We are not only celebrating the launch of a new degree programme, but also a tangible sign of a successful partnership. This project demonstrates what can be achieved when motivated people work together. It sends a strong message to the youth of our region, to policymakers, and to ourselves as well. Together, we have created something new!
