Standing by other students!

Germany Scholarship holder and Business Administration student Franz Wenger talks about his work on the Faculty Student Committee.

The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences has been participating in the Deutschlandstipendien program for ten years. In the winter semester 2021/2022, 15 scholarships were awarded to students from various degree courses at our university.

How did the scholarship holders find out about the Deutschlandstipendium? How did they qualify for it? How does it enrich their everyday student life?

Here they talk about their lives as scholarship holders.

"Supporting other students in the Faculty Student Committee!"
Business administration student and Germany scholarship holder Franz Wenger

Franz Wenger, 20 years old, comes from near Herrnhut and decided to study business administration at the HSZG after completing his vocational baccalaureate at the Zittau vocational school center. How did this come about? "The BSZ, where I completed my vocational baccalaureate in economics in Zittau, is right next to the faculty building and that was the first point of contact that sparked my initial interest in business. It was clear to me early on that I wanted to study something economic," explains Franz. Due to the proximity, there were often taster events at the HSZG, especially at the Faculty of Business Administration and Engineering Management. "Among other things, professors came to visit us at the BSZ or we were given time off to take part in the university information day. This gave us the best conditions to get to know the HSZG as personally as possible," says the Business Administration student.

Franz is currently interested in Accounting and Taxation on the one hand and Finance and Controlling on the other: "It's definitely going to be numbers-heavy for me. Among other things, I find mathematics very interesting. That's always been my strength."

In addition to his studies, Franz has been involved in the Faculty Student Committee since his first semester and also joined the Business Administration Study Commission at the beginning of the year. He says: "I simply enjoy helping students when they have subject-related or organizational problems during their studies. I can be the first point of contact for students, so to speak. But it's also about organizing student events that I help with, such as the get-to-know-you barbecue with the first-year students. I find it all very exciting and that makes me feel very comfortable in the Faculty Student Committee." Franz is also jointly responsible for the German-language website of the ice hockey club in Liberec in the Czech Republic as an online editor. There he is responsible for preparing match reports.

But sport is also a big part of his life in other ways: "I often go hiking in the Zittau Mountains, I've been playing soccer in a club since I was a child and I joined the floorball team as part of university sports this semester. When he's not spending his time doing sport, Franz spends it with his friends, family and girlfriend. "My day is definitely packed full," he says.

Franz has already gained some professional experience through two internships. He has already worked in a business consultancy in Dresden and in a tax consultancy and auditing company in Görlitz. This ultimately led to his interest in accounting, which is why Franz can imagine specializing in this field later on during his studies. However, he would like to gain more experience for his future in order to find out what he wants to do after his studies: "That's my focus at the moment, to find out where I want to go. That's why I'm already looking forward to getting to know my sponsor, IMMOFANT GmbH, soon and expanding my network."

Apply for a Deutschlandstipendium again this summer!

Do you not only have good grades, but are you also socially involved in a club or within the university? Do you have a special hobby and win one prize after another? Or did you have to overcome private hurdles to be able to study at the HSZG?

Then apply for a Deutschlandstipendium at the HSZG. The new application phase is expected to start next July. You can find all the information here.

The Deutschlandstipendium amounts to 300 euros per month. Private sponsors such as companies, foundations, alumni and other private individuals pay 150 euros of this. The other 150 euros are paid by the federal government. The Deutschlandstipendium is paid directly to the scholarship holders by the universities.
