Former students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering talked about their life after graduation at the DIES ACADEMICUS.
It is a contribution to the so-called career orientation of our students and already a small tradition at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at DIES: hearing from alumni that you can really become something with a Zittau engineering degree in your pocket. One female graduate and four graduates from the energy and environmental engineering and mechanical engineering degree programs told a large audience of interested students about their careers after graduation. Five very different personalities with different jobs and yet many things in common: It is worth fighting through your studies. It is important to seize opportunities and dare to think outside the box.
Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Sebastian Werner spoke about his studies in energy and environmental engineering and the various stages in his life where he identified his professional goals and which brought him to his current job as a project engineer at Integral Projekt GmbH & Co. KG in Cottbus.
Mr. M.Sc. Rajesh Sriram studied until 2018 as part of the IGCHE program in the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. During this time, through various internships and his subsequent master's degree, he discovered his passion for programming. Today he is a data scientist at ASAP Holding GmbH in Munich and was able to show the students that you can achieve your goal with passion and perseverance.
Ms. M.Eng. Johanna Schubert reported on her journey from the Franconian region to Zittau to complete a KIA (sandwich-style) degree course in mechanical engineering, followed by a master's degree, various professional stations and her position as head of the calibration office in Löbau.
Mr. Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Sven Wiedemann uses his knowledge from his energy and environmental engineering studies and his experience today as a creative, self-employed engineer in the field of renewable energies.
The group of lecturers was completed by Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Eik-Fabian Gleiß. He came all the way from the north of the republic to the south for his diploma studies. He got his foot in the door of his current employer, Johnson Drehtechnik GmbH, with his internship work, is also completing his thesis there and is now a quality management officer at the company.
The Faculty Student Committee for Mechanical Engineering rounded off the event with a barbecue and cool drinks in the courtyard of Haus ZVII. As after the presentations, there was an opportunity to ask questions and pick up a tip or two.
All in all, five interesting examples of career paths after graduation were presented. An inspiration for our current students and also a small confirmation for the lecturers.
