First virtual BASA network meeting

Different perspectives and professional arguments were at the heart of the further development of the screening procedure, which is used to question employees about their working conditions.

BASA is the abbreviation for a screening procedure with which employees are questioned about their working conditions. BASA stands for "Psychological Assessmentof WorkingConditions-Screeningfor Workplace Owners" and was first published in 2001 as a procedure by the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (baua). Since 2016, the responsibility lies with Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Matthias Schmidt, who, together with Katharina Roitzsch and Gabriele Walter, has completely revised the procedure and adapted it to the current requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Act ( risk assessment of psychological stress, § 5 ArbSchG, number 6), the Joint German Occupational Safety and Health Strategy(GDA) and the ISO standards.

BASA III determines mental stress and resources in the work context. The aim is to identify beneficial and detrimental working conditions. This allows occupational health and safety measures to be derived.

The BASA network brings users and the development team into contact with each other. In the network, you are the first to learn about current developments and have the opportunity to reflect your own needs to the development team. The BASA network has been in place at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences since the beginning of this year. This is where the development team and users meet, exchange news about BASA and reflect on experiences and requirements from practice.

On October 8, 2020, the first virtual BASA network meeting took place with a lot of exchange and input from all participants.  An input on current developments relating to BASA and a practical report were followed by a digital open space in which the participants from Germany and Austria engaged in lively and sometimes heated discussions based on their experiences. The focus was on further necessary validation steps and the experiences of using BASA in practice, as well as the question of what further collaboration within the network should look like. This is precisely the purpose of the network: to bring together different perspectives and exchange professional arguments as a basis for the ongoing development of BASA.

A new development met with approval. As a spin-off, so to speak, the BASA team is currently working on a procedural variant for the self-employed. To this end, the BASA content has been adapted to the circumstances of the self-employed. The aim is to use the structured results to create a targeted advisory service for this target group. In the current winter semester, the procedure is being tested on a pilot sample as part of a final thesis.
