The new center?

As a partner of the German Hygiene Museum in Dresden, the TRAWOS Institute for Transformation, Housing, and Social Spatial Development at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences invites you to a joint conference with the Federal Agency for Civic Education, the Mercator Forum on Migration and Democracy at TU Dresden, the Institute for Communication Studies at TU Dresden, the Kulturbüro Sachsen e.V. and the Catholic Academy of the Diocese of Dresden-Meissen.

“The New Center? Right-Wing Ideologies and Movements in Europe”
from September 17–19, 2018, at the German Hygiene Museum in Dresden.

The threat from the right has become significantly more diverse and divergent. It is no longer just violent neo-Nazis working toward a revival of the German Reich; national-conservative right-wing populists and völkische nationalists, Identitarians, and Reich citizens are also agitating against the Federal Republic of Germany, each with their own distinct concepts, goals, and strategies.

The aim of the conference is to examine the diversity of the New Right while simultaneously seeking out the elements that unite them: Which ideologies provide the building blocks for the various models of world explanation, and what common goals link the different spheres of activity on the far right of society? How do societal transformation processes influence support for and opposition to these explanatory models and movements? What interactions exist between societies and the far-right spectrum through media coverage and media networks?

With a wide range of lectures and workshops, the conference is aimed primarily at those who face these challenges in their professional and personal contexts. At the conference, they will receive background information on the individual actors and structures and learn strategies for their daily work.

The conference fee is 60 euros / 40 euros (reduced rate) for high school students, college students up to age 35, apprentices, participants in the Federal Voluntary Service or FSJ, recipients of ALG II, and holders of the annual museum pass.
In addition, the conference is listed as a continuing education course in the Saxon online continuing education catalog for educators under event number EXT04294.
