Benjamin Küchler receives HIGHVOLT Prize 2017
The graduate of Electrical Energy Systems dealt with incidents in electrical power supply systems.
Benjamin Küchler is this year’s recipient of the HIGHVOLT Prize for the good diplom thesis. The graduate of the electrical power systems degree programme at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences focused his diplom thesis on the “Analysis of Fault Records for the Assessment of Faults in Electrical Power Systems.”
“The analysis of recorded data to assess faults in transmission and distribution grids is an essential prerequisite for safe operation. It is important to have suitable tools available that not only allow access to large amounts of data but also provide algorithms for analysis,” explains Benjamin Küchler.
As part of his final dissertation, the engineer developed software that enables the straightforward and convenient analysis of these large data sets. The program can be used not only for fault logs from all protective devices (COMRADE format) but also, more broadly, for time series in any format. This makes the application particularly interesting for grid operators.
Benjamin Küchler currently works as a research assistant in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. He focuses on new concepts for the operational management of distribution grids. His work focuses on the integration of renewable energy generation facilities into the electrical power grids and the resulting demands on grid structures.
Thomas Steiner, Head of Technology at HIGHVOLT, presented the award on April 13 during the graduate colloquium of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.
The HIGHVOLT Prize, worth 1,000 euros, is awarded annually. It recognizes Diplom theses in the field of electrical engineering that demonstrate exceptional dedication and present practical results and insights.
