Transformation processes at KIA

At the 14th meeting of the KIA training network on December 7, the focus was on the further development of study content.

The 14th conference of the KIA training network took place this year due to the pandemic situation in the BigBlueBotton under the motto "Transformation processes - further development of study content".

KIAdirekt and Study 4.0

Following the Rector's welcome address, Professor Worlitz gave a short presentation on "News from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science", which included the basic structure of the faculty. He then went on to discuss the expansion of elective options in the semesters and the new KIAdirekt course in computer science, which is also to be extended to the other degree programs. He also gave an outlook on the Studium 4.0 project, which aims to introduce part-time Bachelor's and Master's degrees and slow down the entire study program.

New degree programs and accreditation

The short presentation on the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was given by Professor Bellair. Here, too, there was a brief introduction to the faculty, in which he also presented the new degree programs: the part-time Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering, the Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering Education and the Bachelor's degree program in Green Engineering. In addition, the faculty's existing degree programs underwent quality assurance through independent accreditation until 2028. The VDMA's "Machine House Transfer Project" came to a successful degree. New results for further development were also presented. For example, a teaching object was introduced to accompany students through their undergraduate and specialist studies.

The accountability report for the KIA training network was presented by Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Amhaus. He once again addressed the special conditions under which the training of KIA students has taken place over the last two years. General information such as the development of enrolments, additional qualifications and tutorials was addressed and an outlook on upcoming events in the training network was given.

Next, Dipl.-Ing. Nora Terlunen presented the current project "Young skilled workers for mechanical engineering in structural change" of the Skilled Workers Alliance. Existing company collaborations are to be expanded and new ones created in order to promote the practical training of students. The KIA (sandwich-style) degree course is to be strengthened and extended to the KIAdirekt format. In addition, the professional relevance of the students is to be expanded through a wider range of additional qualifications and teaching input from companies.

Finally, M.Sc. Sarah Barth presented the new KIA Master's degree course in integrated management/ integrated management systems at the Faculty of Natural Sciences.

Before the end of the event, participants had the opportunity to ask the presenters questions and make comments about the KIA (sandwich-style) degree course. Professor Bellair concluded the successful event with a closing speech.
