Welcome Hi Lusatia!

Regional Network for Science, Research, and Education Establishes the Hi!Lusatia Association.

On June 8, 2023, ten partners from the fields of education, research, business, and civil society founded the Hi!Lusatia association at CELSIUZ, the Co-Creation Lab at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. The name Hi!Lusatia combines the English greeting “Hi!” with the Latin word for Lausitz, making it clear that skilled workers are warmly welcomed in Lausitz.

The founding members include the renowned educational institutions Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and the International University Institute (IHI) Zittau of the Technical University of Dresden, as well as major research institutes such as

  • the German Aerospace Center (DLR),
  • the Fraunhofer Society for the Advancement of Applied Research (Institutes for Machine Tools and Metal Forming, and for Optronics, Systems Engineering, and Image Analysis),
  • the Helmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf (CASUS Institute),
  • the Leibniz Institute for Ecological Spatial Development (Interdisciplinary Center for Transformative Urban Redevelopment), and
  • the SENCKENBERG Society for Natural History Research

as well as innovative, research-oriented employers such as Siemens Energy Global GmbH Co. KG and strategic partners from other sectors of the economy and society, such as Europastadt Görlitz-Zgorzelec GmbH and DDV Neiße GmbH.

Other interested parties, including the German Center for Astrophysics (DZA) and Construction Future Lab (CFLab) gGmbH, have already expressed their intention to participate in the association.

Hi!Lusatia e.V. aims to promote the appeal and diversity of work, life, teaching, and research in the Germany/Poland/Czech Republic tri-border region through joint initiatives and to actively contribute to the forward-looking, sustainable transformation of the region. The focus is on promoting science, research, and education.

Prof. Alexander Kratzsch, president of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, was elected chairman of the association’s board of directors.

The founding of Hi!Lusatia is a significant milestone for Lausitz and its development as a strong hub for science, research, and education. I am proud that we have launched this initiative together with our partners. The association will help enhance the region’s appeal and diversity and drive its sustainable transformation. Hi!Lusatia warmly welcomes skilled professionals and offers an inspiring platform for collaborative projects and ideas.

Prof. Alexander Kratzsch, President of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences

Sven Werner, Site Manager of Siemens Energy Global GmbH & Co. KG, and Prof. Thorsten Claus, Institute Director of IHI Zittau, will serve as deputy chairmen. The association will be based at Obermarkt 17 in Görlitz.
