Successful bachelor defenses of international students at the IPM

On 19.12.25, two Bachelor students successfully defended their Bachelor theses at the Institute of Process Engineering, Process Automation and Metrology (IPM ). Both theses were written as part of our ongoing research and teaching activities and make a valuable contribution to the realization of current projects at the Institute.

Miguel Ángel Barragán Cruz and Raul Naime Curi come from the Universidad Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico) and took part in research and teaching at the IPM as part of an existing international partner program. Through their work, they were not only able to deepen their specialist skills, but also actively contribute to our institute-related research projects.

Bachelor thesis in the field of optical detection and recycling

Raul Naime Curi, Holger Neumann, Daniel Fiß

Raul's Bachelor thesis dealt with the topic
"Commissioning of a Camera System for the Optical Detection of Plastic Waste".

The results obtained are directly incorporated into the research project "Robotic Sorting and Automation for Recycling (RoSA-ReCycle)". The aim of this project is to develop new methods and technologies to optimize recycling processes through the use of advanced robotics, automation and artificial intelligence (AI). A particular focus is on the development and combination of innovative sensor technologies that enable precise and efficient sorting of recyclable materials. The approaches developed are validated under practical conditions and achieve a technology readiness level (TRL) of at least 5.

Bachelor thesis in the field of collaborative robotics

Miguel Ángel Barragán Cruz, Daniel Fiß, Christian Vogel

Miguel dedicated his thesis to the topic
"Design and 3D Construction of a Collaborative Robot Cell with Two Cobots for an Automated Screwdriving Application".

His work strengthens the IPM's expertise in the field of collaborative robotics. The knowledge gained and concepts developed flow directly into the teaching module "Introduction of Collaborative Robots" and contribute to the practical development of teaching in the field of modern automation solutions.

Thanks and outlook

We would like to thank both students for their commitment, their well-founded work and their contribution to research and teaching at the IPM. We wish them all the best and continued success for their future professional and personal careers.
