On February 12, 2020, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Kratzsch received the certificate of appointment as president of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences for the term from March 1, 2020, to February 28, 2025, at the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture, and Tourism, the certificate of appointment as Rector of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences for the term from March 1, 2020, to February 28, 2025. It was presented to him by State Secretary Andrea Franke.

Prof. Kratzsch was elected Rector on November 15, 2019, by the Extended Senate of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. The election was based on a nomination submitted to the Extended Senate by the Chair of the University Council, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sylvia Rohr.

Ultimately, his constructive, determined, and dedicated work at the university—and above all, his service as Director of the Institute for Process Engineering, Process Automation, and Measurement Technology—as well as his compelling visions and ideas for the university’s future likely contributed to his election.

During a public presentation at the university, he assured the audience that he would continue the policies already initiated for the university’s future in all key areas. He views the university’s development plan and the agreement on objectives with the SMWK as the foundation and guiding principles for his actions. Among his stated goals is also to further intensify the university’s impact in and for the region. This includes further improving the transfer of knowledge and technology, as well as fostering even closer cooperation with businesses and non-university institutions in the region, the counties, and the municipalities.

Another priority for him is to improve communication within the university as a whole, as well as between the two campuses. He aims to achieve this primarily through even closer collaboration between the faculties at both campuses.
