Can we still justify animal experiments scientifically today?

Guest lecture on May 27, 2026 with Ronald Naumann (MPI-CBG Dresden) on animal research, responsibility and the 3R principles.

Begin 27. May 2026 - 16:00 Uhr
End 27. May 2026 - 17:30 Uhr

The Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences invites you to a guest lecture by Ronald Naumann from the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) Dresden.

Under the title "Can we still scientifically justify animal experiments today? Insights into the legal reality of research."
, current developments in biomedical research will be presented and central questions regarding responsibility in dealing with laboratory animals will be discussed.

Ronald Naumann heads the Transgenic Core Facility at the MPI-CBG and is responsible for providing genetically modified mouse models for research. He is actively committed to critically scrutinizing the use of laboratory animals, reducing it and, where possible, replacing it with alternative methods.

The lecture will present current biomedical research projects and the genetically modified mouse models used for them. In this context, the controversial topics of animal research will be critically examined.

In addition to the technical content, ethical and legal issues will also be addressed. These include animal welfare, animal protection legislation, laboratory animal regulations and the practical significance of the 3R principles: Replace, Reduce, Refine.
