She's coming back! Who is coming back? The BücherboXX in Zittau, of course.

What is a BücherboXX? A BücherboXX is a converted phone booth used for free book swapping. True to the motto “Bring a book. Take a book. Read a book!”

people can swap old treasures however they please. It’s also possible to simply bring or take books—
. There are no loan periods or opening hours, and no registration is required.

Back in 2018, there was already a BücherboXX in Zittau, which was intended as a trial to see whether the citizens of Zittau wanted this kind of cultural exchange opportunity. That BoXX was also set up at the time by Social Work students. The response from Zittau was overwhelming. Many people wanted the BücherboXX back. That’s why the project group’s task now is to set up the BücherboXX permanently on Zittau’s market square.

The students were unable to reinstall the BücherboXX that had previously been in Zittau (
), as it had been made available by INBAK (Institute for Education, Culture, and Work) as a traveling BoXX (
). Additionally, the group wanted to establish its own BücherboXX, tailored specifically to Zittau.

This, of course, also involved converting a decommissioned phone booth into a BücherboXX. This task was kindly undertaken by trainees from classes Bla17 and BVB18 at the BSZ in Zittau, who handled the painting and vinyl wrapping, and by participants in the Motivation Workshop 2.0 at bao GmbH Zittau, who handled the woodwork. KIA students (Cooperative Study with Integrated Training) from the university took over the installation of the electronics after the construction work was completed on the Zittau campus. They installed a scrolling sign above the door. A solar panel on the roof of the BücherboXX provides the electricity needed for the scrolling sign and lighting.
