Mental hygiene for helping professions

My name is Barbara Kerber, and I have a Diplom in social pedagogy. For more than 10 years, I have been working in the field of outpatient services, primarily in social-pedagogical family assistance.
In my day-to-day work, I visit families. In doing so, I am confronted with a wide variety of living situations and human experiences.
In practice, this means, among other things, being able to perceive the home environment and the existing coping strategies within the family system. These factors influence me and affect me in various ways
. From the very beginning, I’ve had to grapple with the following questions:

• What personal strategies do I find helpful in distinguishing between my professional and private lives in order to stay healthy?
• How can closeness and distance interact in my professional life?
• And what consequences might there be if there were too much or too little of either?
