(Faster) reading, comprehension and retention

In this interactive workshop, you will learn to read more effectively using reading techniques and practise using memory techniques.

Students and researchers often have to do a tremendous amount of reading, which takes up more time than necessary. In this module, participants learn specific reading techniques that allow them to read faster while also retaining more information. The course consists of many practical exercises and tests that participants can try out and apply in the future. Reading is a complex cognitive process. Several reading techniques—such as SQR, SQ3R, SQ4R, rational reading, productive and reproductive reading, and others—are introduced and practiced. There are many memory techniques. During the interactive workshop, participants will learn, for example, how to use a mind map as a reading note, what mnemonics are, and how they can be applied while reading to remember content. Participants will also discover which learning style they prefer (visual, tactile, auditory, or communicative).
